So, after my first publication a few days ago, I got lots of questions from a couple of readers.
These were genuine concerns, and I promised to attend to them in my next post (this one) before going into other aspects of Multi-Level Marketing (MLM).
These questions includes; the legality of MLM, the sustainability of the industry, choosing a company to work with, e.t.c.
Your other MLM coach would probably give you a yes/no answer and leave you with more questions and confusion than before.
But you know my style now, I prefer giving all of the details, removing all sorts of doubt and leaving you with enough information to hold a personal training on the subject matter.
First, are you among those asking questions like; is Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) aka Network Marketing legal? Will MLM last long? Is it sustainable? Where do I start MLM from…?
Welcome onboard, your pilot Faith Ono is about to take off.
Before I go on, I'll like to tell y'all a story about how I chose the name "MLM" instead of the conventional Network Marketing.
So, I had kicked off my career in Network Marketing with a company a friend of mine had been talking about for a long time.
As usual, I told everyone who cared to listen to my business opportunity and had a good number join me.
It wasn't long before I noticed that everyone I told I am into Network Marketing immediately built walls around our conversation, yh, because they knew I'll end with "come and register". Lol.
I decided to start reading and learning better ways to do this new found business of mine.
In the course of all these, I read a sentence that reads "MLM IS NOT MMM".
I was shocked because which one is MLM again, lol.
As I read further, MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) was just another name given to Network Marketing or should I say "tush name for NM".
As a Nigerian reading this you wouldn't need much definition for what MMM stands for, yh, because as of this time in 2016, it was like the household name for "fast money".
Anyway, MMM is a ponzi scheme that crashed as quickly as it came into Nigeria.
I took it upon myself to start letting people know that MLM is not MMM as they think because both required "networking of people" for growth.
Those who know me know that before I tell you anything about Multi-Level Marketing, I try to make you understand that "MLM IS NOT MMM".
Think about it.
So, these days, when I tell people I'm a Multi-Level Marketer, they pause for a moment and listen to this marketer tell them what is "multileveled" about what she does.
The name has come to stick with me for a very long time now and my prayers daily is that I change the narrative about the industry in the minds of people beginning with those around me.
Now, let's get on with answering a couple of your questions (I'm tempted to tell another story).
For today, I'll be dealing with just two questions, subsequently, the others would be attended to;
First, IS MLM LEGAL?
With all the scams and fakes out there, it is increasingly becoming difficult to convince people about the authenticity of MLM.
I know a lot of people who have suffered great loss because of scams disguised as MLM, but all these doesn’t distort its legality.
There is nowhere in the world where it is illegal to buy products for personal use, tell people about the product you bought and get paid by the company for doing so.
It is utterly legal to do MLM; the only thing illegal is “Ponzi scheme” which has been largely misconstrued to be the same thing as MLM
Secondly, WILL MULTI-LEVEL MARKETING LAST?
MLM business has been in existence since the 1920s and 1930s, even presently, there are hundreds of companies currently using the model in their businesses;
majority in Nigeria are owned by foreign companies.
This only shows the amount of success rates already recorded in the industry.
Now, the bigger question should rather be, “will this company’s MLM business model last?”
This is very important before any investment is made.
Ask questions, make research thoroughly before going into it, in most cases, the integrity of the company should be confirmed before investment is made.
MLM will continue to thrive from generation to generation, see the major companies using this model for instance and judge for yourself their longevity.
So guys, when next you get talking with anyone concerning MLM get your facts right,
put yourself together and say it out loud to whoever that needs to hear it that "MLM IS NOT MMM",
"MLM IS LEGAL" and
"MLM IS SURE GOING TO BE AROUND FOR A VERY LONG, LONG TIME".
